Service Tax overview

Service Tax was implemented since 1 September 2018, replacing the Goods and Services Tax which no longer applies with effect from 1 September 2018. 

Impact to HSBC and our customers

Service Tax of RM25 will be charged on each new primary and supplementary credit cards upon activation of the credit card. 

For existing credit cardholders, Service Tax of RM25 will be charged on the anniversary month of each of your primary and/or supplementary credit cards.

FAQs

When was Service Tax implemented?

Service Tax was implemented on 1 September 2018, replacing Goods and Services Tax which no longer applies with effect 1 September 2018.

Who will be impacted?

Service Tax will be charged on all new and existing credit cardholders.

When will Service Tax be charged to my HSBC Credit Card(s)?

Service Tax of RM25 will be charged on each new primary and supplementary credit cards upon activation of the credit card.

RM25 will also be charged on existing credit cardholders on the anniversary month of each of your primary and/or supplementary credit cards.

How often will Service Tax be charged?

Service Tax will be charged on the anniversary month of your HSBC Credit Card(s) annually.

Will I know after Service Tax is charged to my HSBC Credit Card(s)?

Yes, Service Tax charged will be reflected in your monthly credit card statement.

I have multiple Principal and Supplementary HSBC Credit Cards. Will Service Tax be charged to each of my HSBC Credit Cards?

Yes, Service Tax of RM25 will be charged on the anniversary month of each of your Principal and/or Supplementary HSBC Credit Cards.

Will I be automatically issued a Service Tax Invoice after Service Tax is charged?

No. Service Tax Invoice will only be issued upon request. Should you require a Service Tax invoice, please contact Customer Service at 1-300-88-1388 / 603-8321 5400.

Will there be any waivers for Service Tax?

No. All active credit and charge cards in Malaysia will be charged with RM25 Service Tax as imposed by the Royal Malaysia Customs Department.

Will Service Tax be imposed again on my replacement credit card(s) that have been replaced due to the credit card(s) being reported Fraud, Lost or Stolen?

No, Service Tax will not be imposed again on your replacement credit card(s) in the event a new credit card(s) is issued to you due to your old credit card(s) being reported Fraud, Lost or Stolen (subject to both cards having the same starting and expiry date).

I received an SMS from HSBC that my credit card has been cancelled due to no activity. Will Service Tax still be charged to my credit card?

No, only credit cards that are active will be charged with Service Tax.
